Incident happened in Kerala, India. During Aug-Dec 2003 police started investigation on international arms smuggling racket named Santhosh Madhavan as ring leader. It was media who took things in their hand since then. Media found swami Santhosh Madhavan and named him as the arms smuggler.
But real smuggler was jailed abroad long back and police was informed about it. But media kept the swami on their news. Mrs Saraffin from Dubai knew this swami as the person who cheated her with a business proposal and ran away with $90000. She reported about him to interpol and filed complaint against him. Interpol was so confused about Santhosh Madhavans they posted swami's photo in their website saying swami is wanted in arms smuggling case.
Swami, unaware of cheating case went to local inspector general and showed his passport to prove his innocence in arms smuggling. Next day Mrs Saraffin went live on TV with her claim and Swami went to hiding. Police raided his properties and found that he was involved in porn CDs racket. This resulted in another 2 more cases - rapes and kidnapping of young minor girls. Swami went for a run but after media's race to catch him, he was arrested on 13 May 2008.
Since then two girls aged 13 and 15 years has filed complaints against him and on 20 May 2009 he got 16 years jail, $3000 fine for rapes and kidnapping. The $90000 cheating case is pending. An investigation started with arms smuggling ended in caging a serial rapist and big time criminal. A real life pink panther investigation.
